At St. Edward's Catholic School in Nashville, Tennessee, the principal, Fr. Dan Reehil, removed all the Harry Potter books from the school library, telling parents in a letter that the spells written in the books are actual spells and can conjure up evil spirits. It's provoked quite a national reaction. Gus asks listeners their thoughts on the "book banning."
And, Gus talks about a video that went viral around the time he was getting home from the Camino. In it, an older man is on the line for holy communion and he awkwardly takes it from the priest in his hand, walks away and stuffs it in his pocket. Gus asks listeners if they've ever seen anything like that and what they, or the priest or eucharistic minister, did or didn't do.
Hi Gus, Love your show! My opinion on this is that if you haven’t read the books, you should. Next he will be banning Tolkien and Lewis. Harry Potter is the classic tale of good vs evil. In the final book – Harry sacrifices himself to save his friends… sound a little familiar? The books are so popular because of Rowling’s ability to write with such character depth that had not been seen in a generation.
