Dr. Matthew Bunson of EWTN News calls in to talk with Gus about his recent trip to Quito, Ecuador to cover the 53rd International Eucharistic Congress and recounts some of his personal experiences. While the pope was on his Southeast Asian trip, he ruffled some feathers when he talked about other religions and how “all religions have a path to reach God,” with the Vatican cleaning it up for their English and other translations. It set off a bit of controversy with some people taking it as the pope saying all religions are the same, and that he failed to mention Jesus. Gus and Dr. Bunson go over that and some of the response it's received. Afterwards, they talked about several other news items of Catholic interest, including the group of Carmelite nuns in Arlington, Texas who are currently feuding with their Bishop Michael Olson. They recently announced that they are now affiliating themselves with the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX), a traditionalist group that is not in full communion with the Catholic Church and has canonically irregular status. Also, the Vatican has announced that they’ll be holding a press conference tomorrow regarding the “spiritual experience” of Medjugorje. Dr. Bunson previews what that may be discussed.

Later, Ellen Miller and Marilyn Lane call in to talk about their 2024 Christ Our Life Conference in Des Moines, Iowa, which they co-founded and takes place on September 28th and 29th. They talk about what attendees can expect, what events will be held and go over their list of amazing speakers.

And Gus talks about today’s First Reading from 1 Corinthians, which is often referred to as “The Love Chapter,” and invites listeners to call in to talk about the readings used at their wedding mass and if this was one of them.
