Last week, Pope Francis did it again. He had another one of those in-flight press conferences where he said something that the Vatican had to later clarify. On board Shepherd 1, where he was flying back to Rome from his two-week trip to Southeast Asia, he accused both candidates, former President Donald Trump and current Vice President Kamala Harris, of being against life; Harris for her hard pro-abortion stance and Trump for his stance on migrant deportation. Gus disagrees with the pope’s equivocation of the two, stating that Church teaching explicitly condemns murder and has made their stance on abortion clear, in that its intrinsically evil, while illegal immigration is more nuanced. He invites listeners to call in and give their opinions.

Also, Gus is joined by Dr. Andrew Abela, dean of the Busch School of Business at the Catholic University of America. He’s also the author of the forthcoming book, “Superhabits: The Universal System for a Successful Life,” available from Sophia Institute Press. Today, he talks with Gus about an article he wrote that appeared recently in Forbes, entitled “How to Be Happy As You Climb the Corporate Ladder.”

I think people just like to find fault with everything the Pope says. You don’t get conversions with the attitude that only Catholics get to heaven. That’s just as bad as all those preachers who tell people that we are heretics, idolatrous, flesh eating cannibals. His real message was peace. Peace and tolerance for other faith disciplines. Are we not watching a terrible war in the Middle East right now? Surely people don’t believe it’s JUST about land. We all know wonderful people who are some other faith. We try to influence them with our lives, not accusations of heresy. There are so many out there who really hate Catholicism. He’s trying to bring people together and we’re whining about “but we’re better”. No we’re the same. We’re flawed. and we’re trying to follow Christ. Who IS God. 2nd person of the Trinity. Let’s support the Pope and not throw him under the bus becuase he points out injustice.

I emphatically disagree with the Pope. There is no comparison between the issues along with all of the other perverted policies Kamala Harris supports. The bottom line is that the Pope is too much of a globalist to not support the Marxist/globalist agendas of the Left.

Yesterday you accused the Pope of “equivocation” of abortion and immigration needs. Please look up the dictionary definition of equivocation. It does NOT mean to equate. It means to speak in a way that is intentionally confusing to listeners, IN ORDER TO HIDE THE TRUTH. You seemed to be saying the Pope was EQUATING abortion and immigration needs, but you were using the wrong term.
Ironically, Pope Francis did hide the truth that immigration in the USA is welcome and has been a part of our country’s history for centuries. ILLEGAL immigration is NOT a benefit to the USA, and has caused major problems in the last few years. To “equivocate” does NOT mean “to equate”.

Does the Vatican accept migrants? I read that the Pope brought 12 migrants with him from Cyprus, but I think they are going to be settled in Italy. Residence in the Vatican City is very limited and I don’t think migrants are allowed. If Pope Francis brings migrants from Cyprus he is just circumventing Italian law.

I respectfully disagree. The Pope statements required no clarification and were spot on. It’s something a lot of conservatives do not like to hear or think about. Scripture and not the Church is the final arbiter and it is made pretty clear that we are to welcome all. If we can’t or won’t then we are not only ignoring it’s mentioning throughout the old testament but also Christ own statements “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Mt 25:35. Paul also mentions in Hebrew 13:1-3.
