Today’s First Reading is one of Gus’s favorites, which is from St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans. It’s Chapter 8, Verse 28, which is affectionately known as Romans 8:28, where St. Paul tells us “All things work for God’s good.” It’s a cornerstone of the Christian faith, and Gus invites listeners to call in and share their personal story from Romans 8:28, where God turned something seemingly bad into something good.

Also, Dr. Matthew Bunson of EWTN News calls in to cover a few stories of Catholic interest with Gus, including a few notable anniversaries. We’re approaching the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second Vatican Council, and Pope Leo XIV is revisiting some final documents, “Nostra aetate,” a declaration of the Catholic Church’s relationship to other religions, and “Gravissimum Educationis,” which reflects on the role of Catholic education. The pope is calling for a renewal for that and, for the former, he celebrated with an interreligious gathering at the Colosseum in Rome. Later, they discuss St. John Henry Newman being named a co-patron of education, along with St. Thomas Aquinas, and being named the 38th doctor of the Church. They close with the second important anniversary, which is the 50th anniversary of the death of Cardinal Josef Mindszenty, a Hungarian prelate and leader of the Church in that country through the fascist and communist regimes from 1945 through 1973. He was imprisoned by both the Nazi and communist governments and Dr. Bunson recalls meeting him as a young man in Hawaii.

Later, Gus is joined by Bridget O’Callahan, executive director of the pro-life group, Womankind, which is a crisis pregnancy center. They are celebrating their 50th anniversary and Bridget shares their story and the prenatal and maternal care they offer.
