Gus is joined by Dr. Matthew Bunson of EWTN News to talk about some news items of Catholic interest, including Pope Francis’ interview with 60 Minutes this past Sunday. News anchor Norah O’Donnell asked him several questions about things like the war in Ukraine, the rise in antisemitism, immigration, same sex blessings, women deacons and other hot-button issues. Gus and Dr. Bunson also talk about the Vatican’s new instructions on verifying Marian apparitions and other supernatural phenomena. And it wouldn’t be a typical conversation without an update on the German Synodal Way, which shows that most German priests don't support it.
Gus talks a little more about CBS’s Norah O’Donnell asking Pope Francis about the possibility of women deacons in the Catholic Church and his one-word response, “No.” Gus says this is a big issue for political progressives who by and large don’t participate in the Catholic faith and their ultimate goal is for women priests. Gus asks listeners, who actually participate in the Church, to call in and share how important this is to them.
