Gus talks about the daily struggle in dealing with the pain and stiffness that comes with total knee replacement surgery and how it’s shaping his prayer life. He gets calls from listeners encouraging him with stories of how they got through it and later invites people to call in and talk about what their prayer lives look like.
Also, this month is the 13th anniversary of when Gus wrote his book, “Magnetic Christianity: Using Your God-Given Gifts to Build the Kingdom.” Since today is the Feast of St. Barnabas, Apostle. His given name was Joseph, but the apostles changed it to Barnabas, which means “son of encouragement.” In his honor, Gus plays the audio chapter on “Encouragement.”
We also hear from Catholic author Dr. Robert Royal who calls in to talk about his new book, “The Martyrs of the New Millennium: The Global Persecution of Christians in the Twenty-First Century,” available from Sophia Institute Press. Dr. Royal provides a brief history of martyrdom in the Catholic Church and the different types of martyrs we have. He also talks about countries in the world where martyrdom of Christians goes on today and the most dangerous place in the world it is to be a Catholic priest.
And Gus wraps up by talking about New York State’s legalization of physician-assisted suicide and how the bishops there are asking for prayer and action against it. Gus encourages prayer for New York State, its leadership and the 10 other U.S. states where this is legal.
