Dr. Matthew Bunson of EWTN calls in for the first time since before the papal conclave that elected Pope Leo XIV. He and Gus recap that time, which Dr. Bunson writes about in great detail in his new book, “Leo XIV: Portrait of the First American Pope.” He and Gus chat about the former Cardinal Robert Prevost and how his family life shaped his faith and created the environment that would give us Pope Leo XIV. He also talks about some of Pope Francis’ more controversial directives that need to be addressed by our new pope and some of the first moves he will make regarding new bishops, in the Roman curia and in other important leadership roles.

Later, Gus shares a pre-surgery story where his anesthesiologist, who just so happened to be a fellow parishioner, asked Gus if they could pray together before the surgery. Of course, he said yes, and it put his mind at ease. He called it a divine appointment and he invites listeners if they ever had something like that, where somebody came from seemingly out of nowhere and eased the situation in a divine sort of way.
