Gus is joined by Catholic author Nik Nikas to talk about his new book, “Now and At the Hour of Our Death: Making Moral Decisions at the End of Life,” available from Ignatius Press. Nik explains to Gus that he’s an attorney and he saw firsthand the difficulties so many families go through when a parent, spouse or loved one reaches their end-of-life period. He felt it necessary to lay out the Catholic Church’s teachings on end-of-life morality and what to take into account when planning one’s own end of life. He and Gus discuss particular aspects such as DNR (Do Not Resuscitate), “pulling the plug” and other important items.
Also, Deacon Gerard-Marie Anthony calls in to talk about his new book, “Peaceful Hearts, Zealous Hearts: How the Sacred Heart and Divine Mercy Devotions’ Complementary Messages Make Us New.” available from Sophia Institute Press In it, Deacon Anthony lays out how devotion to the Sacred Heart and the Divine Mercy can draw us into a conversation with God and, therefore, closer to him. Deacon Anthony is a unmarried, celibate permanent deacon and he shares his vocation story and how he discerned it.
Afterwards, Gus defines what a devotion is in Catholic terms and invites listeners who have a particular devotion to call in and share it.
