Fr. Leo Patalinghug joins Gus in his home studio in Tampa and offers up the Miracle of the Lima Beans. Several years ago, Gus had expressed his disdain for brussels sprouts and Fr. Leo told him he could convert him and came to his home to prepare them in olive oil and bacon. He was successful in converting him. Gus later confessed to Fr. Leo his absolute hatred for lima beans, so, today, he prepares a rolled chicken dish with a lima bean stuffing and converts Gus yet again. Afterwards, Gus and Fr. Leo take listener questions.
Also, Gus talks about a story out of Abbeville, Louisiana this past Sunday where a first communion mass was disrupted by a 16-year-old trying to enter St. Mary Magdalen Church with a rifle. He was neutralized by several parishioners and tragedy was averted. Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel issued a statement regarding the incident and stated that uniformed police officers will be present at all upcoming masses. Gus invites listeners to call in and talk about how they’d feel having a police presence at mass.
The security talk makes some churches sound like the disciples on Easter night (behind locked doors) instead of the disciples of Ascension and Pentecost. The devil is distracting us from our calling. If people volunteered as willingly to spread the Gospel as they seem to volunteer to provide security, great things can be done.
