Gus talks about the populist movement in Europe following recent elections there, particularly the election of Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini last June. The two still haven't met and it's particularly poignant as Salvini's party, the conservative Lega Party, swept the elections. That combined with the pope's statements on immigration, the environment and other hot-button, gives Gus reason to ask the listeners if the Church has become too political. Or, is it not political enough?

Gus goes over some divorce statistics and points out that, for several years now, the divorce rate has hovered around the 50% mark nationally. He notes that among practicing Catholics, the rate drops down to the teens. One of the thing that Gus advocates regularly, on the show and in his parish missions and talks, is praying together as a couple. He really feels its a boon to marriages. He invites listeners to call in and talk about whether or not they pray together regularly.
