Gus goes over a very recent news item out of Rhode Island where gay pride events are being held throughout the month of June, which is Gay Pride Month. The Bishop of Providence, Rhode Island, Thomas Tobin, Tweeted out that Catholics should not support or attend any such events. It caused quite an uproar and drew intense criticism in the Rhode Island gay community and beyond. It even drew a protest outside the Cathedral of Sts. Peter & Paul in Providence. Gus stands by the what the bishop said and opens up the phone for listeners' thoughts on this touchy issue.
And, it's been about one month since we last did a round of Tell Me Something Good, so Gus sets aside some considerable time for that.
Catholics do not shun gays. God loves all people including gays! I have a gay daughter who thought the same way & would not go back into the church. I had her meet with a priest that I know at my church & he explained that God loves all people, but he will not approve of marriage, the church will never change their stand when it comes to that ever!
I listen to your show every morning. I am part of the family having coffee talk across the breakfast table. However I have to disagree with you here. Why can’t people who identify as catholic and gay also be here? Why can’t we welcome gay people into …(or back into) the Catholic church? Love is love. My sister identifies as gay and catholic but refuses to go back to church…because Catholics shun her..how can we make this right?
I wrote a really long post, then realized that it does not matter. You win…I quit…there is NOTHING in your church for me or my kids.
