Gus reads and reflects on a pastoral letter written by the USCCB and addressed to Catholic youth entitled “Dear Young Friends.” Afterwards, Gus talks youth ministry and young adult ministry and invites listeners who’ve been involved in one or both of those to call in and share their experiences. Gus also talks about how so many young Catholics fall away after receiving the sacrament of confirmation and he asks listeners what happened to their faith after they were confirmed.

Also, Fr. Leo Patalinghug calls in from Greece where he’s getting ready to host a pilgrimage. He and Gus talk about a number of important things like Fr. Leo’s experience at the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis last week. It’s part of the Vatican’s “Eucharistic Revival,” and Fr. Leo talks about how many people were there and how inspiring that was for him and so many others and tells Gus that he brought his food truck there and ran out of food. Fr. Leo also announces that he is hosting the first-ever Young Catholic Adults Pilgrimage.

And Gus plays an audio clip of a Catholic hymn often sung at mass called “Sing a New Church.” It’s probably his least favorite hymn and he won’t sing it because he dislikes the message. Gus says that the title and some of the lyrics give the impression that there’s something wrong with the old Church or the Church in its current form. Gus opens the phones up for Tell Me Something Not So Good and takes listener complaints.
