Yesterday, the Democratic National Convention kicked off in Chicago and the Cardinal Blase Cupich, the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago, gave the opening invocation. Gus plays it in its entirety and then opens up the phone lines for listeners to call in and share their thoughts on Catholic clerics participating in political conventions with opening prayers.

Later, Tessa Cox, a senior research associate at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, calls in to talk about a study they just released that compares mental health utilization after pregnancies that ended in abortion versus natural pregnancy loss. The results showed that women who underwent abortions had significantly higher rates of outpatient and inpatient mental health services afterward. She and Gus go over some of the details and what we can learn from this. Afterwards, Gus invites listeners who’ve had a miscarriage, an abortion or both to call in share how their mental health was affected.

Hi Gus, listening to the show about the invocation at the DNC. The caller talked about the R being against illegal immigration which is against Catholic teaching. I thought the catechism said that we are to obey other countries’ laws when we visit. So why do I feel like the official Catholic position is open borders? Seems to me that the Catholic position is legal immigration.
