Catholic author Phillip Campbell calls in to talk about his latest book, “In Pursuit of Wisdom: Catholicism and Science Through the Ages,” available from Our Sunday Visitor. His book addresses the old trope that faith and science are mutually exclusive and does a closer examination of the Catholic Church’s relationship with science and the scientific community. Gus and Phillip discuss a few of the monumental exchanges between the two and how faith and science can have a compatible and harmonious relationship.
Later, Gus talks about a conundrum he found himself in this past weekend. Last Christmas, he asked his wife for a set of medical scrubs, aka the uniform worn in hospitals by nurses, doctors and other medical professionals. He typically wears the shirt around the house, but, when he wore it out in public, his daughters were aghast. They told him he was acting irresponsibly and said it was akin to stolen military valor. Gus takes it to the listeners and asks them to call in and tell him if it’s OK for non-medical people to wear scrubs in public.
And Gus wraps up the show with an episode of Tell Me Something Good.
