Based off today’s Gospel from John where Peter swears to Jesus that he will lay down his life for him at the Last Supper after Jesus predicts his passion and death. That’s later countered following Jesus’ imprisonment and “trial” when Peter is accused of being one of his followers and denies he even knows him just as Jesus predicted he would. It’s because of this dichotomy that Gus says he identifies with Peter more than any other character in the Bible. He invites listeners to call in and share with what Biblical character they most identify.
Later, Scott Weeman calls in to talk about his new book, “The Recovery Rosary: Meditations for Those Impacted by Addiction, Compulsions and Unhealthy Attachments” available from Ave Maria Press. Scott talks about his struggle with alcoholism in the early part of his life and how he got through it following the 12-step recovery process. It led him to found Catholic in Recovery, which takes many of the aspects of the AA recovery process but places the emphasis of a “higher power” on Jesus Christ and his teachings. His new book features input from 20 different contributors from Catholics in Recovery and applied to the 20 different mysteries of the Rosary. Afterwards, Gus invites listeners who’ve experienced or dealt with addiction at any time in their lives to call in and share how it affected them spiritually.
And Gus wraps up the show by doing daily Lenten reading and reflection of Thomas a Kempis' "Imitation of Christ."
