All Lent long, Gus has been reading and reflecting on the book “Imitation of Christ” by Thomas a Kempis. Written in the 15th century, it’s one of the best-selling spiritual books ever, just behind the Bible, so how come its author hasn’t been canonized. Gus welcomes Tim Moore, an expert on the book and its author and an “Imitation of Christ” commentator, to the show to talk about Thomas a Kempis, his life and reasons why he hasn’t yet been canonized. He and Gus also have a conversation about the book, its purpose and what we’re supposed to get out of it. Afterwards, Gus does his daily Lenten reading and reflection on "Imitation of Christ."
And it's Monday, so Gus does an extended round of Tell Me Something Good with listeners.
Super interesting author and speaker. I’m searching for his books. Ready to dive in deeper with The Imitation of Christ.
Gus, I enjoyed our time this morning! Thanks for your interest in Thomas and his work. He sets the standard high, but is like that sports coach who keeps encouraging us to push through the pain to do one more push-up. He is also the coach who sends you into the big game even though you know you are not ready. We have a lot to learn from this 645 year old Master who sees his greatest title as “An Imitator of Christ.”
