Your Mansion

Posted on

In today's first reading from Acts 13, we hear more of Paul's speech at the synagogue in Antioch. In the Gospel reading from John 14, at the Last Supper, Jesus speaks about where He is going.

"In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? Where I am going you know the way."

Some have translated that phrase "many mansions." Are you familiar with the "bigger mansion" theory? It kind of goes like this: the more good works and service to the Lord you did in this life, the bigger your mansion will be in heaven. It's a very imperfect way to describe our heavenly home. Think of it like this: those who more greatly perfected their capacity to love on earth will have a greater capacity of perfected love in heaven.

Father, may we build up our heavenly mansions through greater love in this life. Amen.
