In today's Gospel reading from John 14, Philip has a request for Jesus. "Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us." Jesus' reply must have stung a bit.
Jesus said, "Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip?" While Jesus explained things as best He could to the Apostles, I'm sure there was much they did not understand, including Jesus' eternal Sonship.
I suspect Jesus would say the same to me. I've been doing this Christian thing most all of my life. Yet there are still plenty of times that I still don't know Jesus. It's probably because I tend to project my thoughts and beliefs onto Jesus. You see, I know about Jesus. But I need to get to KNOW Him more and better.
Father, help us to know Jesus - more and better - today and every day. Amen.
