Signs and Wonders

Posted on

In today's first reading from Isaiah 65 we see what things will be like when God brings forth "new heavens and a new earth." It is going to be beautiful. Read it and see.

In our Gospel reading from John 4, a royal official comes and asks Jesus to heal his child. Jesus responds, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe." The man continues, and Jesus heals his child from afar. St. John tells us, "Now this was the second sign Jesus did when he came to Galilee fro Judea."

Signs and wonders. What do those look like to you? Many want to see God do "something big" or they won't believe. As if God needs to prove himself to anyone. I believe our world is filled with signs and wonders. I believe God showers us with them every day. You see, those with faith can see the signs and wonders. We don't need proof. And those who have no faith and demand signs'and wonders lack the vision to see them. It's a terrible vortex into which we should never fall.

Father, increase our faith, that we may continue to see the signs and wonders all around us. Amen.
