No Questions Asked

In today's first reading from Genesis 23 and 24, we read about the death of Sarah and how Isaac found a wife in Rebekah. In the Gospel reading from Matthew 9, we read about the call of Matthew.

As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him.

I'm always struck by this account. It raises so many questions. Did Matthew know Jesus, or know of Him? Had they ever met? Was Matthew looking for a reason to leave his gig? Regardless, Matthew left and followed, no questions asked. I think I would have had plenty of questions. Like, follow you where? What do you want of me? How long will this take? While we may have many questions, perhaps the biggest one comes from the Lord. Are you willing to follow me?

Father, may we follow Jesus unquestioningly, today and always. Amen.
