Today is the Feast of St. Luke who was not only a traveling companion of St. Paul and the author of one of the Synoptic Gospels, but also a physician. He is the patron saint of physicians and surgeons, among other things, so Gus talks a little bit about faith and medicine and the role in plays in our lives as Catholics. There are some out there who feel the two are mutually exclusive. Gus feels the opposite in that they're quite compatible. He invites listeners to call in and share their medical experiences, both positive and negative.
Also, Dr. Matthew Bunson of EWTN News calls in from Rome to give Gus and his listeners an update on the ongoing Synod on Synodality. He gives a breakdown of what is going on and emphasizes that this is not a meeting to change Church teaching. He explains how this body doesn't have the authority and that the purpose is to put for a "Synthesis Document" with recommendations and proposals for presentation to Pope Francis at the end, which is sometime next year. He also talks about the general mood in Rome following the Israel-Hamas War, which started over 10 days ago.
Afterwards, Gus invites listeners to call in and talk about whether or not they're following the Synod.
St. Luke, pray for us!
