Gus is joined by Shroud of Turin expert Dr. John Sottosanti, who calls in to give an update. The shroud, which is stored in the Chapel of the Holy Shroud within the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, Italy, is believed by many to be the burial shroud of Jesus Christ, although the Catholic Church has never formally declared it. Dr. Sottosanti was allowed to view and analyze the shroud 25 years ago and continues to do so. Recently, while doing a deeper investigation, he was able to make out teeth in the image. He and Gus talk about it and Dr. Sottosanti states that the incisal plane, or biting edge of the lower teeth, is clearly visible.”
Also, the day after Charlie Kirk was assassinated on the campus of Utah Valley University, Gus had Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins on the show. Kristan knew Charlie very well, worked with him often, and she engages with students on college campuses just like he did. She talked about her relationship with him, his life and legacy and the dangers she and others like Charlie face. They also talked about the transgender movement and how it’s part of the culture of death. One of Gus’ listeners, who is an M.D., took great exception to Gus’ conversation with Kristan, particularly the latter part. Gus keeps her name anonymous, but reads their exchange and then reads an update from the USCCB has called for the Federal Trade Commission to put an end to the marketing of interventions and procedures that promote “gender affirming care.” He opens the phones up for listener feedback.
Later, Gus provides an update to a story he talked about earlier this week, where Illinois Senator Dick Durbin was going to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from Cardinal Blasé Cupich and the Archdiocese of Chicago. The problem is, Durbin is a world-champion supporter of abortion and has received a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood. The archdiocese got incredible blowback, including from several of Cupich’s brother bishops. Yesterday, Pope Leo XIV was asked about the controversy and weighed in on it, which wasn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for the senator who ultimately decided not to receive it. Gus opens up the phones for listeners to comment on this development.
Hi Gus,
I wanted to let you know that I am more recent listener to your show and have been listening for about 3 months. I did miss when you were off on med leave and pray your recovery is going well.
I wanted to comment and I did try calling in today regarding your comments on transgenders. Gus I can understand not understanding, I can understand disagreeing, what I do not understand is the animosity that comes across. We are all Catholics and with that, I hope we consistently show compassion, empathy, and understanding, and when we don’t understand, not to judge. I acknowledge I don’t understand but how can I judge when I don’t. And many of the people you’re talking about so flippantly don’t understand either. How is dragging people show empathy and a willingness to listen and help?
I also don’t understand this fixation with some of you over a situation that occurs in less that .1% of our populations. Gus do you know our children are in crisis yes but not due to this. We have kids glued to their phones today which is impacting their attention spans and their abilities to learn in a classroom we insist they learn in all while being incapable of learning due to their brains rewired by the phones, by social media, by minute Tik Toc and Instagram videos. Yet you focus on .1% of the population. Is this for clicks? To gain attention. The pope came out in favor of gun regulation and all I heard on the Catholic Channel was how it’s none of his business. The number one killer of children in the United States is not your concern but your concern involves .1% of the population?
We have a high percentage of young people on anti depressants, we have victims of gun violence in our schools on a DAILY BASIS and you are regularly discussing an issue that impacts a tiny minority. Forgive me for saying this I don’t believe you are operating in good faith.
Now get snarky I guess, get defensive, or move onto subjects involving most of our kids that we can hopefully all agree on and help them. We should be dealing with solutions to those problems first and foremost and most of all, show compassion and empathy to those we don’t understand. That is what Jesus would do.
Enjoy your program whenever I am able to tune in. Especially enjoyed the program today because of the passion and resolve Gus showed today in both words and tone. I am a 68 year old male who recently lost his wife of 46 years. I miss her tremendously but commit to continue our work and purpose together. Susan is forever in my heart We have three children and 6 grandchildren, the two oldest children Stephen and Christina and their respective spouses Sarah and Tim have three children each. Our youngest son is a Special Needs young man of 34 years. Nicholas has Downs’ Syndrome and has lived with my wife and I and will continue to be with me. Gus resonates with me because he is a man trying to live according to the will of God but lives and acts as an ordinary man. He, to me, is approachable and inspiring—a special guy but not one who acts like he knows he is a special guy. I hope to reflect that same sort of ordinary person to my children and grandchildren—a person who loves to have fun in this world but also a person who is somehow relatable and lives the faith and words of Jesus and the Church.
Despite what Gus has heard recently from some, he remains inspiring to so many and, to me at least, is the consummate CathOlic (emphasis on the O as Gus often enunciates—:) )
Best wishes for health and happiness and thank you so much for the great work of the Lord that you are undertaking every day. Iwill keep all of you in my prayers and ask that you keep me, my bride and my entire family in yours as well.
