Gus goes over some recent statistics published by Ryan Burge, which shows “rampant cafeteria Catholicism” in the United States, particularly on three of the biggest social issues in Western culture, abortion, euthanasia, and the death penalty. The study finds that only 0.9% of American Catholics agree with Church teaching on all three issues. Gus goes over what the Church actually teaches on these issues and brings it back to ignorance. Gus talks about the pull of the world combined with the deep theology of the Catholic faith and what she teaches can often lead to ignorance. Gus invites listeners who’ve overcome ignorance of faith to call in and talk about what that was like for them.
Also, Dr. Matthew Bunson of EWTN calls in to talk about several news items of Catholic interest, including the State of New York’s war on crisis pregnancy centers. It’s being led by radical New York Attorney General Letitia James who is suing many center, accusing them of promoting “misinformation” on the efficacy of the abortion reversal pill, progesterone. New York is also seeking to enshrine abortion into its state Constitution by putting it on the November ballot but was blocked by a judge because the state didn’t follow the proper procedure. The state is appealing. Also, the Vatican is releasing a document on Marian apparitions and other supernatural phenomena next week, which will unveil new norms for discerning whether or not an apparition is valid or not.
