Fr. Leo Patalinghug calls in and talks with Gus about spicy food. Fr. Leo talks about reactions to spicy food in his cooking on on his food truck and Gus relates it to the Gospel in that, for some people, they can only take a little bit at a time. They also talk about tithing and what our mindset should be about that. Fr. Leo says that he always tells people that they should only give what they can, and it isn't always financial. Tithing is not just treasure, but time and talent. He and Gus discuss our proclivity to being cheap and stingy with all that because we think God is cheap. But God is extremely generous and if we give what we can from our heart, we will be rewarded, at the very least, in spiritual ways.
And, since the theme of today's mass readings is generosity, Gus plays the audiobook version of his chapter on Generosity from his book Magnetic Christianity.
Also, Gus talks about how, whenever he meets fans of the show, the two things they always bring up our the "Good Morning, child of God" intro and the fact that he refers to his wife Michelle as his bride. He invites listeners to call in and share what pet names they use for spouses, children or anyone else who is close to them.
Lastly, Gus goes over a story out of Baltimore where a young man assaulted a 73-year-old and an 80-year-old man who were praying outside a Planned Parenthood facility, leaving them with some broken bones and concussions.
I love “Good Morning, Child of God”. I use it at the beginning of my 1st grade CCD classes. I got it from you almost 4 years ago. Since then, kids I previously had in class come up to me & say it. What a blessing it has been!
