We are just coming off ordination season, which is the time of the year seminaries ordain new priests. Gus is joined by Fr. Max Gallegos, the newest priest in the Diocese of Birmingham, Alabama. He shares his faith journey growing up, the people who inspired him and some of the burdens and boons that naturally come along with following your religious vocation. You can check out his podcast here.
Also, this past weekend, Pope Leo XIV spoke with a large group of teachers and young people visiting from Denmark, England, Ireland and Scotland and he told them that religious pilgrimages are “vital” for a Christian’s life of faith. Gus invites listeners who’ve been on pilgrimage to call in and talk about their experiences.
And Gus talks about how the IRS has backed off a 70-year-old rule referred to as the “Johnson Amendment,” which prohibits churches and religious organizations from endorsing political candidates or else lose their tax-exemption status. The order resolves a 2024 lawsuit brought forth by a coalition of religious broadcasters who felt the amendment silenced them and violated their freedom of speech. Gus invites listeners to call in and share how they feel about that.
