Today is the Feast of St. Benedict of Nursia, the father of Western monasticism, and Gus shares with the audience that he has a portrait of St. Benedict and a St. Benedict crucifix in his office that he looks at every day. Gus gives an update on the story of four Catholic priests who attended a Trump rally in Montana on July 5th and were seated prominently, which featured them on camera quite often. One of the priests, Fr. Kevin Christofferson, was moved enough to address the issue by posting his letter to his diocesan administrator on his Facebook page, giving his reasons for attending the rally and sitting where he did. He gets listeners' thoughts.
Afterwards, Gus is joined by the Prior of St. Mary's Abbey in Morristown, New Jersey, a very large Benedictine monastery. He shares his vocation story and what drew him to the Benedictines and shares a little bit about the life and legacy of St. Benedict and gives a short overview of Benedictine spirituality.
St. Benedict, pray for us.
It seems to me Trump having priest in plain view would cause him more problems than not. As you brought up about last person who was catholic was attacked about being narrow minded ( something to that effect) . So why would he give the media that opportunity to do the same?
The priest could have declined to be that visible. I’m proud they had the courage to represent the faith.
I have a story of trump who kept his word to a pastor when no one was looking and not at a time he was running for President.
I don’t think Hillary would be brave enough to have a Christian anywhere close to her.
