Gus is joined by Deacon Greg Trum and Mike Klover. Both are members of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Leawood, Kansas. Last week, the two drove out to Los Angeles in a big box truck to assist in helping victims of the wildfires that decimated so many communities. They asked for donations from the parish and received overwhelming support. They describe how they were inspired to do this, what they saw and what they got out of this whole event spiritually.
Later, Gus tackles a very difficult subject that no one ever enjoys discussing. A few weeks ago, Georgetown University’s Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) revealed that since 2004, clergy abuse payouts in relation to minors are now over $5 billion. Those payments include settlements paid to victims, other payments to victims, support for offenders and attorneys’ fees. Gus talks about the pall that’s cast over the Church and the open wound it continues to be. He wonders if it will ever be fully healed. He invites listeners to call in and share about if/how the clergy abuse scandal affected their faith.
Also, Gus always talks about how our very lives should be a prayer and goes over exactly what that means to him and how he goes about it in his daily life. He invites listeners to call in and share what their prayer lives look like.
