Fr. Leo Patalinghug calls in to talk about a number of Catholic issues with Gus, including the condition of Pope Francis, who is in the hospital battling double pneumonia. They also discuss the recent public dust up between the pope and Vice President JD Vance over immigration and mass deportation. Afterwards, they examine the executive order signed by President Donald Trump yesterday that expands in vitro fertilization treatments and access at the federal level and why the Catholic Church is against that measure. Fr. Leo also gives Gus an update on the food truck and what his Lent looks like, which includes a lot of traveling and preaching.

One issue that came up when Gus and Fr. Leo were talking about Pope Francis’ health was the prospect of him resigning the papacy. His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, was the first pope to do that in several hundred years and it seems a new precedent may have been set. Gus asks listeners to call in and weigh in on the topic, should a pope resign?

Later, Gus talks about his conversation from yesterday with Catholic author Gary Jansen. He told Gus that he’s always taken an intellectual approach to his spiritual reading and mentioned several books that influenced him. Gus invites listeners to call in and share the book that most inspired them. Here is a partial list of the titles:

He Leadeth Me
The Way of a Pilgrim
Roar of the Lion
Raising a Strong Daughter in a Toxic Culture
Mere Christianity
Imitation of Christ
Something Other Than God
Lift Up Your Hearts
MacBeth
Hamlet
Rediscover Catholicism
Your Blue Flame
33 Days to Eucharistic Glory
Rome Sweet Home
Five Years to Freedom

I think the book Embraced by the Light by Betty J Eadie should be added to the list.
