Today is the Feast of St. Augustine of Hippo, bishop, doctor of the Church and prolific apologist whose writings are still influential today. Order of St. Augustine priest and prior provincial of the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova, Fr. Rob Hagan, calls in to talk about the saint, tells a truncated version of his fascinating vocation story and the mission of his order. He also talks a bit about Servant of God Fr. Bill Atkinson, a fellow Augustinian monk and personal friend who has a cause for canonization that’s currently underway.
Afterwards, Gus continues an annual tradition that takes place on Seize the Day on or around the Feast of St. Augustine, Augustine Roulette. Gus has a book that his bride Michelle gave him back in 1991 called “Augustine Day-By-Day: Minute Meditations for Every Day Taken from the Writings of St. Augustine.” St. Augustine was an incredibly prolific writer and TAN books compiled 365 samples of wisdom for each day of the year. Gus invites listeners to call in and give them a date and he dispenses a pearl of wisdom from the revered saint that they can ruminate on throughout the day.
