Dr. Thomas McGovern, of the Catholic Medical Association, calls in to talk about potential COVID-19 vaccinations. Back on July 9th, the New York Times published an article with the headline "Churches Emerge as a Major Source of Coronavirus Cases," (note: since retitled) followed by a deck that stated "More than 650 cases have been linked to religious facilities during pandemic." The day the article was published, there were nearly 3 million confirmed cases in the U.S. Dr. McGovern was one of three doctors at the Catholic Medical Association who took the story to heart and began researching Catholic masses and concluded that evidence shows that churches that follow proper social distancing protocol are safe. He and Gus also talk about potential COVID-19 vaccines and their safety.
Afterwards, Gus talks about the State of Virginia's Commissioner of Health, Dr. Norman Oliver, stating the other day that should a COVID-19 vaccine become available, he will make it mandatory for citizens of that state to receive it. Gus discusses the ethics of that and asks listeners if one does become available, will they take it?
