Catholic author Kevin Wells joins Gus to talk about his new book, “The Hermit: The Priest Who Saved a Soul, a Marriage and a Family.” It’s a deeply raw and tender memoir about his wife Krista’s struggles with addiction and the unforgettable story of a parish priest turned hermit, Fr. Martin Flum, who orchestrated her slow resurrection from the nightmare of her deep wounds and addiction.

Afterwards, Gus talks about the Feast of St. Maximilian Kolbe, which is today. He tells the incredible story of the 20th century saint who laid down his life for a fellow concentration camp prisoner, a married man who was being sent to the starvation barracks. After two weeks, the future saint was still alive, so they ended up injecting him with carbolic acid and he succumbed. He was a true heroic priest and Gus asks if we could do the same thing and he questions whether or not he could. Certainly, he’d like to think so, but you never know until you’re in the unenviable position. Inspired by St. Maximilian and by Kevin Wells' previous book, "The Priests We Need to Save the Church," Gus invites invites listeners to call and talk about a heroic priest in their lives.

St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us!

Seize the Day is exclusive to Sirius XM, so the only way to hear my conversation with Kevin is on Sirius XM. God bless!
