Gus is joined by Adam Minihan, head of marketing for Exodus 90, who calls in to discuss “St. Michael’s Lent,” which is a 40-day fall version of their Lenten fasting/mortification/penance practice based off a practice done by St. Francis of Assisi. It takes place from the Feast of the Assumption, which is this Friday, to the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel on September 29th. Exodus 90 is a 90-day spiritual exercise for men based on the three pillars of prayer, asceticism and fraternity designed to break men from worldly trappings and draw them closer to God. It’s considered extreme by many but has been proven to be very beneficial and successful. Adam addresses some of the issues and misconceptions surrounding Exodus 90 and talks about the spiritual benefits that can come from being uncomfortable.
Also, Dr. Matthew Bunson of EWTN News calls in to chat with Gus about several Catholic news items of interest, including Pope Leo’s early signals towards traditional Catholicism. They talk about some of the more traditional papal garb he’s donned in comparison to Pope Francis and allowing the traditional Latin mass to be more widely available in a few U.S. dioceses and the rumors swirling around Rome that Pope Leo is working on his first encyclical. They also discuss the Vatican extending its employees’ paternity leave from three days to five. Afterwards, Gus talks more about the Vatican’s paternity leave policy and reminisces back when he had kids. There was really no such thing as paternity leave. He says when his first daughter was born, he may have taken a day or two. When his second daughter was born, he was self-employed, so he still only took a day or two. He invites listeners to call in and share their paternity leave experiences.
And Gus opens up the complaint lines and invites listeners to call in to kvetch and complain about things that annoy them. He calls it Tell Me Something Not-So-Good.
