Today is the Feast of Pope St. John Paul II who led the Catholic Church from 1978 to 2005 and had the second-longest papacy in Church history. Gus talks about the influence the prolific pope had on him and talks about some of the biggest moments of his papacy. He also invites listeners to call in and share their memories of JPII and how he may have influenced them.
Also, Gus is joined by Fr. James Kubicki, S.J. who talks about his new book, “A Year of Daily Offerings: Giving Your Life to God One Day at a Time,” available from Ignatius Press. Fr. James talks about the rich array of reflections he put together, which are based on the liturgical calendar and inspired by Ignatian spirituality, and many of them come from the writings of the saints. Fr. James also shares his vocation story and what drove him to the Jesuits.
And Gus talks about a recent interview that Catholic journalist Colm Flynn had with Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem, where he said that a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine isn’t realistic. He said that new ideas are what’s needed, although he didn’t offer any, but he did call for the Israelis and the Palestinians rediscover their call to live close to one another, not against the other.
