Gus discusses a Gallup Poll that was published yesterday that showed that Catholic church attendance nationwide has declined 20 points since 2000 and that church attendance overall has decreased by 18 points. Gus opens the conversation up to listeners and asks them why they think mass attendance is in such steep decline.
Also, Gus is joined by Dr. Matthew Bunson, executive editor and Washington Bureua Chief of EWTN News, to discuss certain timely Catholic news items, including an update to the permanent suspension of private masses at side altars in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Several prominent cardinals and churchmen have asked Pope Francis to withdraw this decree. They also discuss the German bishops who, despite warnings, are defying the Vatican and are heading down their "synodal way," which abandons much of Church teaching and is leading to a de facto schism. Also, they talk about a Catholic church in New Jersey that issued a notification that only parishioners who've received the COVID vaccine can participate in the Sacrament of Penance. They have since withdrawn their statement.
