Gus opens with the breaking news of the election of his friend Msgr. David Toups, president and rector of St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida, to bishop-elect of the Diocese of Beaumont, Texas. At the height of the coronavirus, when Seize the Day was pretaped for two months, Msgr. Toups was a weekly contributor. Gus gives a rousing congratulations and vows to have him back on as soon as possible to talk about it. Afterwards, Gus talks about the Scriptural references to the office of the bishop and goes over the process of how a priest is named a bishop and asks listeners what they believe are the qualities that make a good bishop.
Also, Gus always asks his listeners to tell their friends and family about the show and talks about how the best way to advertise his show is through personal recommendation. He asks listeners to call in and share how they found the channel and the show.
I have to comment about your subject today, about how I found the You and The Catholic Channel on XM.
Our son and his family lived in Nashville TN and we lived in IL. I would drive 6.5 hours to see them as often as possible, usually by myself, but The Catholic Channel, and especially you Gus were my “safe” travel angels. I would leave very early in the morning, I was able to listen to not only your show, but also to mass twice during my trip down. I felt protected and safe during my travels. You are still a daily part of my life, and for that I thank you. We are also O State fans in this house. God bless. Kam
