Gus is joined by Fr. Michael Champagne and Louisiana State Sen. Fred Mills who authored a law that just passed in their state that recognizes the Year of State Joseph and the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, which takes place every year on May 1st. Gus talks about what spurred them to do this, if there was any pushback and the overall reaction by people around the state of Louisiana.
Also, Gus gives an update on Pope Francis' health. The pope has gone into the hospital for treatment of diverticulitis and is expected to make a full recovery. He invites listeners who've undergone a surgery of some sort to call in and talk about how they prepared for it spiritually.
And, in the wake of the Independence Day weekend, Gus talks about patriotism and love for our country and how there's a strong, self-loathing, anti-American movement that exists in the country today. He invites listeners to call in and talk about the biggest threat to patriotism today.
