It's Day 2 of Seize the Day w/Gus Lloyd from Orlando as Gus' parish mission at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in nearby Celebration, Florida continues. He's joined by more attendees and speakers, including one of the church's deacons, Steve Knych, a U.S. Air Force veteran who, on the morning of 9/11, was arriving at his job in the Pentagon when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into it. He shares with Gus his fascinating story and faith journey.
Later, Corpus Christi pastor, Fr. Richard Trout, a Florida native, joins Gus to tell his vocation story and give a little history of the relatively new community of Celebration, Florida.
I was really enjoying hearing from Fr. Trout and about Celebration, Florida. I was so interested in hearing how the parish started but had to get into the office where I, sadly, have no access to SiriusXM. My family moved to Orlando in 1974. We only lived there a year but I remember it feeling almost like the ‘wild west’ in that our elementary school was a bus ride away in Windermere, and there was no Catholic Church. We would drive to Disneyworld each Sunday and mass was said in a Conference Room with chairs lined up to look like pews. I also remember a priest lived in our neighborhood (Sand Lake Hills) and in the summer my sister and I would ride our bikes there for morning mass in his living room. Those were the days!
