Beginning today, and going through Thursday, Gus comes to us live from Orlando where he's hosting a parish mission at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Celebration, Florida. After setting up the show, and briefly going over his 60 Second Reflection entitled "Praying for Life," Gus brings in his first guest John Barros who talks about his pro-life ministry Who Will Stand and some of his unique experiences praying outside abortion clinics.
And later, Gus talks with his friend Shibly Kando in Palestine. Gus will be hosting another Holy Land pilgrimage in October and, because of terrorism and the Trump administration officially recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, there's a lot of seemingly justified fear in traveling to that part of the world. Shibly, a Bethlehem native whose family is very involved in hosting Holy Land tours, calls in from Palestine to tell Gus that the Holy Land is not ground zero in a holy war. Despite the Jerusalem declaration, and what we see on cable news, life goes on pretty much as usual in his country.
And, in the final hour, Gus is joined by local Celebration chiropractor, Dr. Roland Cayer, who initially felt called to the priesthood and spent four years as a Trappist monk in Portugal. He shares his story and how being forced out of religious life led him out of the religious life and into medicine, which galvanized his faith even more. He eventually met his wife Annette and had six children together.
