Gus does a little teaching on today's feast day, which celebrates the Chair of St. Peter, otherwise known as the office of the papacy. He reads and reflects from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which not only explains the role of the office of the pope but also the entire Church hierarchical system. And since today celebrates the office of the pope, Gus invites listeners to call in and talk about their relationship with the pope. He wants to know how important the role of the pope is in their spiritual lives. He also asks whether or not they had any brushes with the pope, which includes papal masses, audiences or one-on-one meetings.
Also, Jim Cavnar, president of Cross Catholic Outreach, calls in to talk about their organization and their mission for Lent, which is to encourage prayer, fasting and almsgiving for "Wells of Salvation," which seeks to bring clean water and schools to some of the most poverty-stricken areas of the world, including Ghana, Malawi and Zambia.
