Catholic author Laraine Bennett calls in to talk about her new book, "The Little Way of Living with Less: Learning to Let Go with the Little Flower." There are many popular books out there about decluttering our lives, but only Laraine's tackles the spiritual aspect. She and Gus talk about how our material possessions create disharmony and prevent us from living in the present moment. She talks about how we can purge ourselves of that aspect through the example of St. Therese of Lisieux. Afterwards, Gus talks about the material clutter he's accumulated in his life and things he's struggled throwing away. He invites listeners to call in and talk about what successes and difficulties they've had in getting rid of stuff.
Later, Gus reminisces about how time with the pilgrims in the Holy Land and some of the places they visited, including the Sea of Galilee and his big moment at the Magdala Center. In it, is a mural of Jesus healing Jairus' daughter, which is a story very near and dear to Gus. Back in the early 1980s, shortly after he and his family had moved to Florida, Gus rescued his daughter Emily from the bottom of a swimming pool and brought her back to life through CPR. Gus and Michelle weren't religious at the time and, the next day, Michelle recommended they go to church and thank God for giving them their daughter back and, the next Sunday, they went to St. Paul's Church in Tampa. Though it took a few more years, it was the beginning of Gus and Michelle's journey home.
And Bob Dunning calls in to talk about all the goings-on in college football, including the flip-flopping of Alabama and Georgia at the #1 spot. Georgia had to come from behind to beat lowly Mizzou last Saturday. They also talk about the biggest games of Week 6 and pick winners.
