Today is the Feast of St. Anthony of Padua. He was a Franciscan priest in the time of St. Francis of Assisi and is considered one of the greatest orators in Church history. He’s also the patron saint of lost objects, so Gus continues a Seize the Day tradition by inviting listeners who’ve prayed for St. Anthony’s intercession after losing something and had it answered.

Later, Gus is joined by the legendary Mike Rowe, host of “Dirty Jobs” and narrator of many popular shows, including “The Deadliest Catch” and “Airplane Repo.” He talks today about his latest project, a movie called “Something to Stand For.” It’s a movie the centers around several stories of patriotism that originated from his podcast, “The Way I Heard It.” Mike says his focus isn’t political but to remind Americans about the many sacrifices our fellow citizens have made for our freedom. The film is set for national release on Thursday, June 27th. He also talks about the good work done by his foundation, Mike Rowe Works.

Also, Bob Dunning calls in to talk with Gus about a number of subjects, including Michael Buffer’s legendary quote, “Let’s get ready to rumble,” which he copyrighted and has sued people over illegal use. They also discuss a restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona called Bobby D’s Restaurant & Lounge and other great eating establishments like Buc-cee's and Raising Cane's, both of which have great chicken fingers. Gus wraps it up by chastising Bob over his opinion in a recent article that bowling isn’t really a sport.

And Gus goes over some news out of Nashville, Tennessee where the Southern Baptist Convention has approved a resolution opposing in vitro fertilization (IVF). The reproductive procedure, which fuses sperm and egg in a lab environment to conceive a child outside of the sexual act, has come under increased scrutiny lately since the Alabama State Supreme Court issued a ruling that frozen embryos are children under state law, which sparked national debate. Gus talks about how this resolution by the SBC aligns very closely with the Catholic teaching on IVF and could result in a greater sense of unity.

Many years ago I lost my catholic faith but never forgot to ask Saint Anthony for a favor when needed. (He always came through) he always seemed to “follow me around” a few years ago when we found out our son had a severe speech issue that prevented him from speaking (he’s 6) while looking for saints to ask for their prayer for his speech issues I came across Saint Anthony, I was confused! I thought he was more of a car keys type saint but he was an eloquent speaker and many invoke his prayers to find even “lost voices” my sons needs require a miracle but just like in the Saint Anthony prayer, HE IS THE SAINT OF MIRACLES so I’ll keep invoking him. I’m forever grateful he kept popping up during a time I was very lost. Happy feast of Saint Anthony!
