Back in 2022, Gus had J.D. Vance on the program. He was the author of the incredibly popular biography, “Hillbilly Elegy,” which was made into a feature film directed by Ron Howard in 2020. Earlier this week, J.D. was nominated by former President Donald Trump to be his Vice-Presidential candidate. When Gus spoke to him, he was running for the Senate, which he ultimately won, and spoke about his upbringing, his life and his conversion to Catholicism.
Also, Gus goes over some Catholic news stories of interest, including a lawsuit announced in California after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill that prohibits schools from notifying parents if their Pre-K through 12th grade child reveals they want to be referred to by a different gender. Also, Gus talks about how Republican lawmakers are demanding answers from the U.S. Army after a leaked photo of slide during a security meeting at Fort Liberty, North Carolina showed a slide that listed pro-life groups like National Right to Life and Operation Rescue as potential terrorist groups and also depicted a pro-life license plate.
Later, Bob Dunning calls into the show and talks birthdays with Gus. Gus talks about how his son and daughter-in-law recently sky dived and asks Bob what the craziest thing is he’s ever done. Bob says that he’s never been a thrill seeker and has never done anything to put himself in danger physically, outside of having children.
And Gus replays his interview with Fr. Jason Charron, the priest who gave the invocation at the Trump Rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last Saturday where there was an assassination attempt on the former president. Afterwards, he asks listeners if they believe it's OK for Catholic clergy to speak at political rallies or not.
