Yesterday, a cease fire was announced between Israel and Hamas. It was a deadly war that began when Hamas soldiers attacked civilians at the Nova Music Festival on October 7, 2023, killing 364. Before that attack, Gus had a pilgrimage to the Holy Land scheduled. It got cancelled and another one is teetering on the brink of being cancelled. Gus talks with one of his tour guides, George Stephan, who lives just outside of Jerusalem to talk about the impact this war has had on him, his family and his business and the renewed hope that comes with this announcement yesterday.
Also, in today’s First Reading from St. Paul’s Letter to the Hebrews, the apostle tells us, “Encourage yourselves daily while it is still ‘today.’” Gus talks about how encouragement is a big part of the Christian walk and he plays the audio version of his chapter on Encouragement from his 2012 book, “Magnetic Christianity: Using Your God-Given Gifts to Build the Kingdom.”
Later, Gus talks numbers. They have also been a big part of faith, dating back to our Jewish roots and throughout Christianity. There are seven deadly sins and seven virtues. The number three is represented in the Holy Trinity, the number of times Peter denied Jesus, Jesus’ resurrection after three days in the tomb and other things. Gus asks if God has ever spoken to them through numbers.
Afterwards, Bob Dunning calls in to talk with Gus about the National Championship Game on Monday night between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. First, they talk more about numbers, including Bob’s lucky number and the extension of the deadline of his 11-Word Essay contest.
