Gus is joined by Peter Carter, co-author of the new Ignatius Press book, “The Song of the Lamb: Sacred Music and the Heavenly Liturgy,” which is essentially a conversation with African Cardinal Robert Sarah about the importance of sacred music in the liturgy. The book intends to offer a spiritual and practical roadmap for authentic renewal, including at the parish level. Peter also talks about the disturbing post-Vatican II trend of discouraging, and in some cases being downright hostile to, Latin hymns, which he explains is part of our history and should be embraced.
Also, it's Monday, so Gus dedicates time to Tell Me Something Good with listeners and later invites them to call in and sing their hearts out. He promotes Fr. Leo Patalinghug’s appearance on the show tomorrow and gives the history of introducing him with the melody of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah. The last time he introduced him, he used the vocals of Nick de la Torre, a guest on the show who’s also a trained opera singer. This time, he invites listeners to call in and sing so that he can put together a chorus to play for him.
