Last night, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl LVIII. One of the hallmarks of Super Bowl broadcasts over the last 40 years has been very creative, big-budgeted commercials. Gus talks about one in particular was by a Christian group called “He Gets Us.” They had a couple of ads last night and the first one showed various staged photographs of feet washing, just like Jesus did to his apostles on the night of the Last Supper. One of them was an illustration that took place outside a “Family Planning” center. Gus describes the scene portrayed in the picture, which shows pro-life protesters in the background and a woman in street clothes washing another woman’s feet. The other woman appears to be a patron of the family planning center. Gus asks, is the image pro-life or pro-abortion? You make the call.
Also, Dr. John Bergsma, noted Catholic author and vice president for Biblical Theology and Mission Effectiveness at the St. Paul Center, calls in to talk about their new Lent program, the Exodus & Exile Challenge, which is an interactive way of reading and reflecting on the Book of Exodus with him and Dr. Scott Hahn. John also shares his conversion story. He grew up Protestant and began studying Catholicism in order to disprove it. It ended up changing his heart. He shares that and other stories with listeners.
And it's Monday so that means Gus does a round of Tell Me Something Good with listeners.
