Gus starts at 7:00 am this morning, preempting mass from St. Patrick's Cathedral, so that we can bring you a special St. Patrick's Day mass from St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, celebrated by Timothy Cardinal Dolan. Gus goes over the readings from today's mass to kick off the show and afterwards, does Prayer Time with listeners.
Before mass begins, Fr. Billy Swan calls in from Ireland this morning to talk with Gus about St. Patrick's Day in his home country and how it's celebrated. He also talks about the state of the Church in Ireland, who the real St. Patrick was and how the saint's legendary writing, "The Confession of St. Patrick" inspired him.
After mass, Gus talks about the legacy of St. Patrick and reads a little from some of St. Patrick's writing from his Confessio, including the section entitled "For Love of God and Neighbor" and wraps up with the Prayer of St. Patrick's Breastplate.
St. Patrick, pray for us.
