Why Parables?

Posted on

Today's Gospel reading is from Matthew 13. This is often referred to as the parable chapter. In today's reading Jesus is asked by His disciples why He speaks to the people in parables.

A parable is simply a story - a story with a deeper, sometimes hidden, meaning. Today's reading tells why Jesus spoke in parables. "Because knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted."

I like to think our lives are a parable. What I mean by that is that we all have a story. And that story is powerful.  That's why it must be shared. Others can benefit from you sharing the story of your life, of your faith. So don't be shy! Share the parable of your life with someone. They will be blessed.

Father, give us the grace and the courage to share the story of your work in our lives, that others may be blessed. Amen.
