Two Great Pastors

Posted on

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of Saints Timothy and Titus. There are two optional first readings, one from St. Paul's second Letter to Timothy and one from St. Paul's Letter to Titus.

Both of these men were missionary partners of St. Paul. Timothy is believed to have been the first bishop of Ephesus and Titus was the bishop of Crete. In his letters to them, St. Paul gives them both great practical advice on living the spiritual life and how to be a great pastor. "I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control."

As we honor these two great pastors today, let us remember to pray for our own pastors, and our bishops. Since the first days of the Church, pastors have faced great challenges. The same is certainly true today. Pray for the intercession of Saints Timothy and Titus for your pastor today.

Father, bless our pastors and our bishops. May they be holy, and boldly proclaim the gospel of Christ in word and in deed. Amen.
