Trust the Rock

Posted on

In our first reading today from Isaiah 26, we read this: Trust in the LORD forever! For the LORD is an eternal Rock.” Rock is a theme that comes from Jesus in today’s Gospel reading from Matthew 7.

“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.” Why would one act on another’s words? Because they trust that person.

We tend to put our trust in lots of things – a 401(k) or IRA, money, the government, relationships, etc. It’s not necessarily a bad thing to be a trusting person. But are we trusting anything (or anyone) more than God? Ultimately, all of these other things will fail. But not the eternal Rock. So how about it? Do you trust that God has only your best interest at heart?

Father, we put our trust in you alone. May we act upon the words of Jesus and grow in trust each day. Amen.
