Today we celebrate the Annunciation of the Lord. Our first reading today contains the prophecy from Isaiah 7: "The virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall name him Emmanuel."
The Gospel reading from Luke 1 is the story of the Annunciation. We may also think of it as the Incarnation, because upon Mary's "yes," God took on flesh in the womb of Mary. "May it be done to me according to your word." With those words, the world was changed forever.
Mary's "yes" was the most momentous occasion in the history of the world. We must always remember to imitate our Blessed Mother, who said "yes" to God at every moment of her life. You see, when we do that, our "yes" can change the world as well. Not only can it, rather, it does change the world. It may be in ways unseen and unknown to us and the rest of the world, but God knows. And our faithfulness will always be rewarded.
Father, help us to say "yes" to your will always, that we, too, may change the world. Amen.
